2021.09.19 19:34 worriedbill Why League of Legends should look to an almost dead 5 year old game for inspiration on game balance.
When League was released, it had a roster of around 35 champions. Because it had so few champions, many were designed with two abilities scaling with AD, and two abilities scaling with AP, with the idea that this would allow each champion to have two major playstyles, with one being an ADC/bruiser and the other being more of a mage (granted the term "bruiser" hadn't been officially coined by Riot, but you get my point). This made each champion very versatile since their kits had to appeal to both of those playstyles. As we know, as time goes on, and new champions get created, champions start becoming less and less versatile and start becoming more specialized in one specific field. Nowadays, a champion is almost always designed with a specific role in mind with every ability of their kit complementing that role, usually without complementing other roles. What we see is a pattern of narrowing in on a specific purpose.
Crowd control is, and has always been, a versatile tool for champions to use in their team composition. Every mage will have at least one form of crowd control if not multiple and we see CC very often in the support, top lane, and jungle roles. We even see plenty of examples of CC in the Adc role (Jhin, Caitlyn, Draven, Ashe, Varus). CC, as it currently is, is a very useful tool because it can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes, either making your target unable to fight back to kill them, or locking enemies in place to make a quick get away, but because of its versatility, crowd control can be problematic.
If a mage gets an advantage over an assassin, and starts building a lead, CC can be used by that mage to further enhance that lead over the assassin, for a single form of CC is usually enough to kill an assassin (especially if you are a fed mage). Alternatively, even if the assassin plays very safe and waits for a gank from their jungler, that same CC can lock down that jungler, allowing the fed mage to get away. What i am suggesting is specific forms of CC that narrows down on its purpose specifically in much the same way we have seen other aspects of League of Legends narrow down, and for this I think Riot can take inspiration from Battlerite.
Battlerite is admittedly a dying game, but it is a diamond in the rough for several reasons and has an extremely loyal player base. One of the reasons this game was so popular among its fans is the way Stunlock Studios handles crowd control effects. Sure we have the basic slows, snares, stuns, even knockups, but Stunlock also utilizes CC is a way that is just barley touched on in League. For example, League has "fear", a form of CC that causes the target to run directly away from the caster, but at a reduced movement speed. Granted it is not EXACTLY the same as a stun, its result isn't much different. The afflicted target is unable to auto attack, cast abilities, or even change direction. This is used in much the same way that a stun would be used as well, either to lock a target down to kill them, or to buy the caster time to escape. Battlerite on the other hand has "Panic". Panic is essentially the same as a Fear from League, but with the caveat of increasing the targets movespeed instead of decreasing it (i think its like a 30% increase in movespeed). Because of the increase in movespeed, this limits the ability to defensive uses only since the target will actually outrun the caster should they attempt to run them down during the panic duration. Panic also has a "damage-gate" built in, which is an effect that cancels the CC early should the target take a certain amount of damage. Petrify is also in Battlerite, which stuns the target but also gives them a shield. The target is stunned for a set amount of time or until the shield depletes.
I think CC treated in this way is a unique aspect that is not touched on in League and would be a great way to set new champions apart from older ones without automatically making them overpowered

2021.09.19 19:34 DeerTrivia Optimized Bounties For 2021/9/18
Deer trivia: In the 1600’s, French royalty popularized the practice of Parforce Hunts. Hunters and their dogs would chase down a deer to the point of exhaustion. When the deer was so worn out it couldn’t escape, the King/Prince/most royal participant would dismount and deliver the killing blow with a sword, taking credit for the hunt.

Step 2 - Pick up the following bounties. Remember, you can use the Destiny 2 Companion app!

I'm surprised that there are no cards which subtract both health and attack from units. I assume they will be added alongside a champion in the future. What champions do you think could be associated with these affects?

2021.09.19 19:34 ebukuraedheut My [19F] brother and family want me to help him write his application to university, but I don't want to because he's treated me awfully
Bit of an intro to this, my brother has a scholarship place at a prestigious boarding school (and I obviously don't, although our grades were the same). The place is for underprivileged working class students and everyone is grateful about him getting a place there but me.
It's just made my brother entirely more insufferable about how he's "above me" and more intelligent. If I hadn't tutored him in English he wouldn't have gotten the grades to get in. The same goes for his sports; I had to babysit our youngest brother for YEARS after school so my parents could take him to different clubs. This doesn't register, and he often likes to mock me about my grades, my health issues and is generally pretty abusive (he enjoys taking my personal things and slowly destroying them and once forced me into a panic attack by physically assaulting me in a corner). My mum's been trying to take him to a psychiatrist but she can't anymore without his permission.
Recently, he's started writing up his application to universities. He asked for my help and I spent over an hour helping him adjust it (it's easier to do this rather than say no and endure passive aggressive hell). On top of this, his application is internally checked by three separate teachers. He's asked me to change it again for him and to send him my own application for him to work from.
I'm not very comfortable with this at all. I feel like he'll use my work again to help him get into an EVEN MORE prestigious university (his boarding school will definitely give him the education and help I didn't get) and shove it in my face. I also think he should get into university on his own work like I had to, but my parents disagree and I've already had my dad scream down the phone because I wasn't doing it "quickly enough" (I've just moved back into university).
Should I just grit my teeth and go through with it or is there anything else I can do (that won't entirely estrange me o.O)?

2021.09.19 19:34 pixiedustalchemy what is wrong with my hand
okay so yesterday I was being an idiot and trying to open something with a kitchen knife and I accidental stabbed my hand right above where the web between my thumb and my index finger is . It’s not a large cut at all it was just a bit deep it made quite a hole but it’s only like a centimeter wide. Well anyways now when I press on the area around the cut (which is now healing over so it’s closed) I can feel (and hear if I put it to my ear) a BUNCH of little popping/crunching sounds and it feels like if there’s a bunch of air bubbles in my hand and I’m kinda concerned about it but I’m hoping it’s gonna resolve itself. I’m a bit paranoid so I’m just hoping someone can tell me what it is and if it’ll go away on it’s own because it’s literally the worst feeling ever and it’s making me nervous

2021.09.19 19:34 Darnellthebeast Question about Live Coding Interviews
A lot of times when I am working on a new LeetCode question, my process is to code up my solution, covering the corner cases that I can think of but not spending a ton of time worrying about them. I then go ahead and run the tests to see if I get any errors or anything, then go back and fix those, repeating the cycle until everything work. I just want to know if this is considered good practice or if overusing the test cases is a bad look to interviewers?

2021.09.19 19:34 canned-sloth Has anyone backtested 55/45 from 1955 to 1981?
I’ve been searching reddit and bogleheads to see a 70s backtest of the current HFEA allocation.
Hedgefundie did a 1955-1981 backtest of the original 40/60 allocation and as you can see, it got destroyed by the s&p.60/40
I’m guessing HFEA would’ve done better over this period with the current 55/45 allocation but I can’t seem to find a backtest. Has anyone done this? Or maybe included some gold in the allocation since that actually ripped in the 1970s?
Just trying to find the best way to make hfea survive and thrive through the dark period.

2021.09.19 19:34 banilly2418 When they leave you after a long term relationship
When your intentions are pure, you never lose anyone. They lose you.
I used to believe the person who cares the least, who loves the least, always has the upper hand. I used to believe this was true, but I’ve now come to believe that the person who loves the least has the most to lose.
In this life, finding someone who has pure, genuine, unconditional love for you is rare to find. That’s who they lost, and they usually end up searching for a lifetime for you in others and never find it. There is no one else on this earth that is you.
So next time, when you find someone you deem worthy of giving your trust to, love them so beautifully that if they break your trust, the loss will be greater on their side. Because you walk away with the most loving person that relationship had in it, yourself.
